There is a very simple way to do it: keep your knees in the air and try to push your hips forward so that your thigh bone is directly over the ball of your foot. If you really want to change your body, you must spend time changing your mind.

Why would anybody spend time and energy on the task of perfecting a skill that they already have the ability to learn? I think that’s the difference between an aspiring bodybuilder and an amateur, and what separates someone like me from a well-trained, professional athlete—it’s a skill that can be practiced and enhanced.

However, I understand that the cost of practice is a lot, and a lot of people choose not to spend it. Even in the best performing countries of the world—which I know very well, because I live and workout there—there are still plenty of people who don’t practice enough, and I am guilty of this too. I don’t want to sound bitter, but for me, practice isn’t a problem.

Do you think someone like myself could succeed as an athlete if they had to devote as much time to practice as they do to the actual training of their body?

If your body is not developed at a young age, then that’s what you’d have to work towards. If you want to be a winner, you have to start training at a very early age—for yourself. As you can see, I believe that in order to become great, you have to do this practice before the training, too.

For example, when I was young, all my weight was on my shins. Every day, I couldn’t get my knee to rise up high enough because of the lack of training. When I turned 20 I finally started training on my calves, and I’m still not great yet. But I’m still working towards it.

Why is being good at something so hard to do until you are old?

We are born without any capacity to do something that requires some skill. So if we do have it, we think that we don’t have the ability to achieve what we are lacking. But to actually experience it, you have to have the strength to actually do something.
