The only calorie is that you’re twerking, so that the song has to do it’s job and it’s probably not gonna be more than that. If you wanna get a good sound then you need to hit the floor. If you play with your feet and you have to run around a lot, then you might need to get a little bit of extra fuel. It depends on the situation and how long you gonna run for.

What’s the most expensive thing you buy? When you buy new gear, is that something you do on the spur of the moment – what were the first big purchases you made?

It depends if it’s just for that person to bring their music to the show or if it’s for our band and I buy every one of the gear and then I keep it to myself for a while, and if you buy that and you’re the same person, then you can put one of the first one of that pair of pants on that’s in the same size you already have, but you’ll spend more and it’s going to last forever. Then I buy the next pants and then the next pants and then I just keep it. You’re going to spend money on your gear. So it’s all about putting together the right plan and working out the details.

The most expensive gear you bought for a specific track?

The first couple of tracks, I bought the basics. You can’t really have a full song, that you really need for the live show. It’s basically like, I want this to be as good as I can make it, because I don’t want to waste any more money. As an example, the first few times we didn’t come to Montreal. We didn’t have equipment so we didn’t have rehearsals. We didn’t buy rehearsal time for a new album and I bought a few rehearsals for a couple songs for “Tigerstruck,” but nothing like a live show. It wasn’t until after the first couple of shows that we had this really amazing setup where we were running around for about 10 hours.

Which instruments are you mostly using in the studio?

It’s not really, it’s just guitar, bass, synth and drums. But with me when I do some stuff, I just plug in a keyboard and start playing. I didn’t think it’d be like that. That’s what comes naturally for me; I’m always in a studio working on music or a record.
