In the last chapter of this series, I explained how energy can change the shape of matter (and vice versa). However, it’s only the second time in this series that I’ve said how energy influences the physics of matter; for the first time, I’ve actually provided an explanation on how energy can influence matter of its own. This is, in a nutshell, when there is an imbalance, an unbalanced relationship between the two forces, and an unbalance between them. If this happens, it is often referred to as an imbalance between the forces.
Here’s an example:
Let’s say that the total energy of your body is 200,000,000 Joules (J), a little over twice that of the largest stars. Your brain is 20,000,000 times larger than this amount, but the force of gravity isn’t equal to 0. In other words, the total amount of energy in your body is more than twice the energy in the energy stored on your body. This is an imbalance between the forces—something that will need to be balanced.
We’re going to use this imbalance, this imbalance between the gravitational and electromagnetic forces, to explain how matter gets to what is called the point of no return. The point of no return is a particular point in space where mass can no longer be added, subtracted, created, or destroyed. When matter reaches this point, it must become a vacuum.
As I say before, this is the moment when matter goes from being a gas to a vacuum. This is the point where something becomes pure energy, in an energy state of infinite potential. To understand why this is the case, let’s look at what happens in an electrical circuit. In an electrical circuit, energy can change, but not flow. The circuit becomes a vacuum. Since the circuit’s potential doesn’t have a value, it’s perfectly still. That’s the energy state as we know it. (You may see that the voltage is in the range of 100 to 1 volts, which is different from the current and current density, respectively.)
In the same way, matter can go from being a liquid to a gas, but only if it can have a specific potential. When it has no value, the potential is zero.
