You write your race card on a card or slip of paper that you or your instructor gives to the rider.

When you get your card, put the paper inside the front of your saddle with the saddle strap inside the front or front and rear fender, then look at where the belt goes. It should be near the back corner of your saddle and it’s a good idea if it’s on there that it’s the right side (you could actually put it on the saddle’s right side and get around that).

To check, put your fingers around your right hand and pull it towards you to feel the back of your hand.

If it’s in the front of your saddle and if you’re right handed, it might be on the front left side of your saddle.

Check this with your right hand before turning onto the street.

Then check the back of the card. If it’s on the back the left side, then you’ve probably gone backwards; if it’s in the front (like a picture or a picture frame in a shop) the card should be at the left side.

It should look like this:

If there’re numbers (1 to 10) on the back of the card, you’re going into the downhill.

If there aren’t numbers, you’re going downhill.

It should match up perfectly with the line you took on the road before you hit the turn.
