“They work hard all the time,” Burt of VocalTic said of the ventriloquists.

Burt admits the business gets harder. “It’s like a roller coaster ride. You have people coming up behind you every day; you have a lot of noise in your head; it’s not like being your regular job at a normal job.”

“People get more used to it,” he said. “You get used to the idea of doing it.”

Still, the industry is not an occupation with a limited pool of talent.

“You’ll see every day the same faces at the door,” Burt said. “Not only the ones who say yes, but all of the other people who can get into it and do well.”
