I’m always thinking of ways to make the paper bleed out while making it. I guess that’s why pencil work is really the most natural thing for me to draw. I was drawing a lot of cartoon work in the 90’s, so I started thinking of how I could blend the cartoonish nature with the pencil-style nature of the work.

What are some of your favorite characters that have drawn your eye?

Sylverne from Beauty and the Beast. She has so much charm and personality. Plus this is the first film where she is in character. She’s a fierce girl. She’s not afraid. I think the movie makes her out to be more than she is. She can be so intimidating and tough, but she’s also sweet and vulnerable. She can do anything she wants. We got to see a lot of this in the movie, and she’s the one character that never fails. That’s what I like about her.

What are some of your personal favorite comics in general?

The first story I was reading about is about the Hulk. He came up with this idea that he could be an alien, and he came up with a new costume. It was just the best story that he ever told. He was also a really good artist.

What are you working on next? Any new projects?

Right now I’m working on the first season of Netflix’s Stranger Things. It’s about a small town in Indiana that gets hit pretty hard by a tornado. It’s interesting because I think that there are so many things that you can do with technology. I’m definitely going to be in touch with my creative side.

Are there any projects you’d love to see do well?

I’d really like to see this movie happen! It’s one of those kind of stories that just have to be seen to be believed. It’s actually a really weird story because it seems so familiar, but it’s so different from anything else in the world of television. People just haven’t seen it. I think it’s very different than our expectations.

We can’t wait to see you in action as the Hulk.
