I always say, “If you need to be skinny to pole dance, you need to be tall.” The thing is, for me, it’s about the balance between athleticism and body fat as opposed to muscle. It’s about strength. It’s about agility. It’s about being very muscular and agile. Having that balance—which, a lot of times, is going too far the other way and being really low-fat.
Do you have to be very skinny to pole dance?
A lot of times you’ve got a guy that’s six foot three walking across the floor, not just skinny, but really skinny, especially when he’s got those skinny shoes. So, you’ve just got a guy who could probably jump from the fourth floor of the building to the first, and he’s got the kind of long legs and muscles that if you have a lot of muscle you’re going to do pretty well on the floor. But if you’re just skinny, then just being skinny can do you in, because you’re not getting as much muscle mass. I don’t have any issues with that, with those guys but it does be challenging. I also think that if you’re just skinny it’s a lot easier [to pole] and that’s what you want, so if you’re just skinny then you just have to work hard and figure out how to make your body the best that it can be.
When you’re on your own in a room pole dancing do you ever say to yourself, “I would just like to do some other stuff,” but then you stay and you don’t go anywhere for a week or ten days because of this?
Yeah. I kind of put that on the back burner. I don’t think about it too much. I guess the truth is that I kind of feel like a lot of it was just the weight gain and the fact that I would do a session and then come home and still be the same guy. It’s very easy to come home and say, “Well, that’s when I stopped. This was a nice session but I really shouldn’t be doing that. That doesn’t work well for me. I should just go and do something else.” It’s very easy to say don’t do that and say there’s this place just like this that’s just like this and that’s the way you have to do it and it’s all right. I’ve always looked at it like I do want to be a little bit more active outside
