Here at Pole Dance, we are one of the most popular dance programs in the country, and we take pole dancing to a whole new level. One of the best ways to learn pole is to have a partner for the day and get your hands dirty. The best way to meet your partner is to walk to the nearest pole dancing gym and ask to practice with them. Many gyms will even let you work out the night before with a partner, or pick a spot on the dance floor that doesn’t have a pole. Check out our gym page for information on which area of the country has the best pole locations near you to practice on.
What should I bring to a pole dance class?
Don’t be afraid to bring yourself! Your clothing should be comfortable, you can’t let your ego get in the way of your comfort level, and you don’t want to get wet and muddy. If you want to be good at pole dancing, you need to be comfortable with yourself, and if you’re not happy with a certain posture or you have an issue when you perform pole, you likely won’t be happy anywhere. We recommend you wear comfortable yoga pants and a sweater and some lightweight socks. Wear comfortable shoes as well. You will look amazing while pole, so bring the right stuff!
What if I’m uncomfortable? What advice do I have for those who have had a bad experience?
We are so lucky to have experienced dancers and instructors who have gone through this experience before us. If you have been struggling with your performance or your dance, it is very important to understand that the dance is not about you; this is about the other dancers in the room and how you’re able to interact with them. We know there is nothing wrong with an uncomfortable dance; there are so many wonderful routines out there that don’t have anything to do with pain and discomfort. The best thing you can do is to do a few exercises and relax and let your body recover naturally, it’s not a race to the bottom. The best way to get over your difficulties is to learn from the experience and then come back and try it again. Also if you are worried about not being safe pole dancing is very safe. There are tons of safety precautions to keep you safe, make sure you have your partner with you and are able to communicate clearly with him or her. If you think someone isn’t safe we won’t be there for you; just keep in mind that pole dancing is an art which requires you to move
