As we all know, the “New York Knicks” have been getting pretty desperate, as evidenced by the hiring of Jim Dolan.

The team signed Carmelo Anthony to his three-year, $88 million contract, after which he had a free agency to go after, and he did that and he did it without any salary cap hold, thanks to the fact that he was only $1 million over the salary cap during the summer. So the Knicks essentially doubled down on the “I’m just trying to win now” strategy they’re used to.

I’m glad to see that the plan worked in the short-term, as it means the Knicks have finally started getting some “real” basketball. However, it is also a case that the current team is still really struggling.

It’s still early in the season, but the Knicks have lost four or more games at least twice, and only one of their last four games were wins, and they’re currently 0–3.

In my estimation, they are now a team in the worst form of it’s existence. However, just because the team is terrible in the short-run does not mean that they’ll be a good basketball team once again in the long-run.

Let’s take a look at both a historical perspective and how teams might react given the Knicks’ current state.

First off, let’s compare the Knicks to other teams over the last few years.
